King Lawrence

King Lawrence rules the kingdom of Marus, the strange two-mooned world that Odyssey children Kyle and Anna stumble into through a ruined house in the woods. He is a jealous, unstable monarch. His people love the young general Darien more than they love him, and he cannot bear it. When the Old Judge names Darien the true chosen king, Lawrence's envy hardens into murderous scheming. He plots against the general, brands Anna a spy, and sells her to a slave dealer. His obedience to the Unseen One fails, and with it his right to rule. Yet flashes of tenderness remain - he can still call Darien his son and admit the young man will one day wear the crown he clings to.
