Matt Cartwood
Matt Cartwood is a fictional rancher who features in the Wild West dramas aired on Kids' Radio from Whit's End. He is the owner of the South Spoon Ranch, and his story retells Jesus' parable of the wicked tenants. Cartwood leased his land to a gang led by Headlock Harry. Instead of paying the rent, the tenants beat the messengers he sent to collect it and schemed to take the ranch for themselves. Finally they gunned down his son Jeremy at high noon. Like the vineyard owner in the parable, Cartwood stands for a patient master whose kindness is answered with violence. Whit uses his tale to show how the religious leaders of Jesus' day rejected God's own Son.
