Jeremy Cartwood
Jeremy Cartwood is a good-hearted young man from the Wild West stories told over Kids' Radio at Whit's End in Odyssey. He is the son of Matt Cartwood, a rancher who leased his land to Headlock Harry's gang. Those tenants beat the rent collectors his father sent and plotted to steal the ranch for themselves. Finally they gunned Jeremy down at high noon. In one musical telling of the tale, the rancher's son refused even to draw his gun. Jeremy's story mirrors the parable Jesus told about tenants who killed the vineyard owner's son. He stands for Jesus himself, who was rejected by the leaders of his day. Within the tale, his death is the warning at the heart of the story.
