John McBear

Big John McBear, sometimes known as Stinky John McBear, is a large and fearsome cowboy in the Kids Radio western tellings of Jesus' parable of the wicked tenants, staged at Whit's End in Odyssey. He serves Matt Cartwood, the kindly owner of the South Spoon Ranch, who leases the property to three shady tenants: Headlock Harry, Trigger Finger Troy, and Silver Saddle Slapper Stephanie. When the rent never comes and a first messenger is beaten, Matt dispatches McBear to collect the money owed. Despite his imposing presence, he fares no better. The tenants call him names, hit him in the head, and send him away with nothing. His failed errand leads Matt to send further envoys, and at last his own beloved son, Jeremy Cartwood.
