Mary (a)

Mary is the mother of Jesus and one of the people of the first Christmas whom visitors from Whit's End meet through the Imagination Station. She is betrothed to Joseph, a carpenter. When a census jammed Bethlehem to bursting, the couple could find no room at any inn. Mary gave birth in a stable that turned out to be a cave, while Connie Kendall hauled water and fetched rags to help her. Connie later found the family at the temple in Jerusalem, where an old man declared the baby the Messiah for the whole world. Back in Bethlehem, Connie helped Mary care for the child, and magi bowed before him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. After Joseph was warned by God in a dream, the family fled to Egypt to escape King Herod, aided by a Roman captain.
