Ted Humphries

Ted Humphries is a television newsman in Odyssey, host of the town's number-six news program on Channel 10. His on-air style seems frozen somewhere in the 1960s, and it stays that way no matter how much pizzazz his station owner, Sky, demands of him. Flashy stunts are not his gift. Slow, careful digging is. When the facts of a story don't add up, he keeps pulling the thread, even if the assignment looks as dull as storm-drain algae. He believes finding the truth is slow, boring work, and worth every minute. He also fronts human-interest features such as his Difference Makers reports, which shine a light on quiet, overlooked people. He often works alongside Zoe, a camera-shy young intern, and he crosses paths with John Avery Whittaker, who takes an interest in the kinds of stories Ted chooses to tell.
