Sam Johnson
Sam Johnson is one of the good kids of Odyssey - honest, hardworking, and conscientious, a regular at Whit's End whose steady character makes him something of a model for what a boy ought to be. He earns good grades that often go unnoticed, pitches in for the town when trouble stirs, and plays baseball for the Odyssey Coyotes, where practice matters more to him than talent. His closest companions are Lucy Cunningham-Schultz, his best friend and equal in decency, and Isaac Morton, with whom he shares a friendship sworn in the spirit of David and Jonathan. Sam is loyal almost to a fault, reaching out patiently to his old friend Brian even after the boy falls in with a gang - though his own struggles with fear, envy, and embarrassment keep him humbly human.
