Officer David Harley

David Harley is Odyssey's resident police officer, a well-meaning but bumbling lawman who patrols the town on his beloved motorcycle. Police work has been his dream since boyhood - he once ran away from home rather than tell his father, who wanted him to be a doctor, that he meant to wear a badge. Quick to haul in a suspect over a stolen pizza or a swiped apple, Harley is also the source of famously bad advice, and his foolproof schemes tend to backfire on the kids who follow them. Yet beneath the blunders lies a surprisingly capable detective who refuses easy answers, tracking a runaway by crouching low to read a trail the way a child would see it. He is a friend to Odyssey's kids, especially boys like Jack Davis and Steve Larson, and harbors ambitions of bigger and better things beyond small-town duty.
