Reginald Duffield
Reginald Duffield is an old wartime friend of John Avery Whittaker, the owner of Whit's End in Odyssey. He lives in England and has served as a pastor for 25 years. During World War II he was posted in the South Pacific, where he met Whit, then a young Navy signalman. He worked as a coast watcher at Manatugo Point. After his radio was smashed and he was wounded, a native boy named Malanga tended him until a nighttime raid brought him to safety. Later, on the island of Rabaku, he worked as a mapmaker and grew curious about Whit's faith. During the landing there, Whit took shrapnel meant for him, and Duffield pulled his friend from the water. He remains a gracious, grateful man whose bond with Whit has endured across decades and an ocean.
