Pastor Pyle

Pastor Pyle is a country preacher in the Tennessee hills, where he shepherds the small mountain church attended by Alvin York and his family. He is a man of quiet moral authority. His preaching calls his listeners to consider what account they will give when God asks for one. That message reached Alvin at a low point in his life. Alvin came to the altar, gave up his old ways, and became an elder in the church. Pyle's congregation holds that the Bible forbids killing, and he stood behind Alvin's plea of conscience when the government demanded he serve. When Alvin left for training camp, Pyle gave him a Bible. When Alvin prayed through his hardest question and came down the mountain resolved, Pyle respected his cleared conscience.
