Marty is also a pilot who transports equipment for Carry the Cure during its outreach along the Iditarod trail. When Logan Scott stows away aboard his overloaded plane, a severe storm forces Marty to make a hard landing near an abandoned cabin. He keeps the injured boy sheltered, reestablishes radio contact, and reports that Logan needs medical care. Once rescuers reach them, Marty accompanies Logan and the others to the hospital. His calm work in a dangerous situation helps Carry the Cure protect a frightened child far from home.
