Elijah

Trapped in ancient Israel by a broken Imagination Station, Robyn refuses to bow to Queen Jezebel's gods and is sentenced to die - until a secret believer named Obadiah hides her away in a cave with God's prophets. Jack, traveling with the prophet Elijah, searches everywhere for her. Then Elijah challenges King Ahab to a showdown on Mount Carmel: two altars, two bulls, no torch, and the god who answers by fire is God indeed. The priests of Baal shout themselves hoarse to no answer, but when Elijah prays over his water-soaked altar, fire falls from heaven and burns up the sacrifice, the stones, even the water... just as Robyn comes running through the crowd to Jack. The people turn back to the Lord and the rain returns after three long years, but Jezebel is not finished - she spots the children, seizes them, and calls for a sword. At the last second they tumble out of the Imagination Station into Whit's workshop, where the only punishment waiting is explaining why nobody read the keep-off sign.

Queen Jezebel gives Robyn a choice: bow down to her gods or give up her life. Robyn cannot - there is only one God, she answers, and he has said not to bow to any other - so the furious queen orders her taken to prison to be executed at first light, warning her official Obadiah that if the girl escapes it will cost him his head. But Obadiah is secretly a believer in the one true God. Instead of the prison, he leads Robyn down a hidden stairwell to secret caves where he has been sheltering God's prophets from the queen, and leaves her in the care of a man named Amasiah while he travels on the king's business.

Meanwhile Jack has been traveling with the prophet Elijah and his young helper Benjamin, hoping the road will somehow lead him back to Robyn. Instead it leads to Obadiah, and Elijah sends him with a message for his master: tell King Ahab that Elijah has returned. Obadiah is terrified, for Ahab has hunted Elijah through every nation and kingdom, and if the prophet vanishes again the king will kill the messenger. Elijah swears by the Lord that he will present himself to Ahab that very day. When the king arrives and calls him the troubler of Israel, Elijah answers that it is Ahab and his father's family who have troubled Israel by abandoning the Lord's commands and following Baal, and he commands a gathering on Mount Carmel: the representatives of all Israel, the 450 priests of Baal, and the 400 priests of Asherah who eat at Jezebel's table.

On the mountain, where the queen's priests of Asherah have refused to appear, Elijah puts a question to the people: how long will they waver between two opinions? He proposes a test with two bulls on two altars and no torch - the god who answers by fire is God indeed. The priests of Baal cry out to their god while Elijah taunts them to shout louder, since Baal may be deep in thought, or on a journey, or sleeping. Nothing answers. Then Elijah has Jack and Benjamin pour water over his own altar three times, until it overflows the trench he has dug around the twelve stones, and prays for the Lord to turn the people's hearts back. Fire falls from heaven and takes the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, even the water - just as Robyn, smuggled onto the mountain by Obadiah in a beggar's disguise, comes running through the crowd to Jack.

The people return to the Lord and seize the priests of Baal, and Elijah tells Ahab to go eat and drink, for he hears the sound of heavy rain. At the feast the king scoffs: three years of drought, and the man promises rain, when surely two miracles in one day are impossible. A man at the feast replies that with Elijah and his God, nothing is impossible. Then Benjamin bursts in with the prophet's message - hitch up the chariots and go down the mountain before the rain stops them - and as the downpour arrives the whole company races to the queen's palace in Jezreel, where Obadiah assures Robyn that after such a day the king will take care of the queen.

He is wrong. Jezebel rages that Ahab has been tricked by a camel-haired magician, vows that by the same time tomorrow Elijah's life will be like one of her 450 slain priests, and demands that her husband choose between her and Elijah's God. Then she spots the children: Robyn is the spy she wanted executed in Samaria. Ignoring Obadiah's pleas, she has the guards grab Robyn and Jack and calls for a sword so she can oversee their execution personally. At that moment the two of them tumble out of the Imagination Station, back in Odyssey, where Mr. Whittaker and Tom Riley want to know why nobody read the keep-off sign. Robyn breathlessly begs for any punishment except prison and executions, and Whit, satisfied that the Imagination Station is working again, invites the pair downstairs to tell everyone which adventure they have had.
