John Whittaker
John Avery Whittaker, known to nearly everyone as Whit, is the heart of the small town of Odyssey. He owns and runs Whit's End, a soda shop and discovery emporium where the town's children gather to play, ask questions, and seek advice. Whit is also an inventor. His most famous creation is the Imagination Station, a machine that carries riders into Bible stories and moments from history. A devout Christian, he is patient, wise, and grandfatherly, yet he holds firm convictions and a sharp, curious mind. He is a widower; he opened Whit's End after the death of his wife Jenny. He also owns the Universal Press Foundation and has done work for the United States government. His closest companions include his employees Connie Kendall and Eugene Meltsner, his old friend Tom Riley, and his son Jason.
