Fred (a)
Fred is a minor resident of the town of Odyssey, one of the background townspeople whose lives brush against the community's larger doings. He holds no prominent role of his own. Instead, he belongs to the wider circle of neighbours surrounding Whit, the owner of a local store, and families such as the Barclays. The events he witnesses are the town's everyday dramas: a Christmas Eve rush, a family crisis, a child's runaway scare, and the small acts of generosity that follow. Little else is recorded about him - no family, occupation, or history is known. He remains a face in the crowd, present at the edges of Odyssey life rather than at its centre.
