Chase

Chase is a foster kid in Baltimore who loves baseball and, above all, Babe Ruth. He hates long division and has little patience for schoolwork. He belongs to Friends, Athletics, Faith, a club that pairs older students with younger children who need a mentor. Through the club he is matched with Buck Meltsner, a newcomer to the city, and the two form a close bond built around sports. Chase dreamed of attending a college sports camp his family could not afford. Buck and his friends raised the money by painting house numbers on curbs, sending Chase and the other nine kids in the program to camp. Their friendship has survived some rough patches, and Buck remains gladly committed to being his mentor.
