Bernard Walton

Bernard Walton is Odyssey's resident window washer, a blunt, plain-spoken handyman who takes pride in good, honest, quality work. He is also one of the town's finest storytellers. Kids often gather around his bucket at Whit's End to hear him retell Bible stories, from Joseph and Esther to Daniel and Job. That gift makes him the natural host of B-TV, a local kids' television show named for him. Bernard is married to Maude, who once saved him from choking on a chicken sandwich, and the two have no children. He is a distant cousin of Eugene Meltsner, a connection uncovered in Eugene's family tree. The pair share a bickering but loyal friendship, including a long road trip to California in Bernard's beloved old pickup.
