Beaulah Kramer

Beaulah Kramer is an elderly resident of Odyssey and one of the town's pricklier personalities. In her earlier years she won an Olympic medal in archery. She now works as a librarian at the Odyssey Library. As a newcomer to Wooton Bassett's street, she quickly becomes his most difficult neighbor. She campaigns to have his backyard merry-go-round removed. Later she rallies the neighborhood behind a petition against his plans to rebuild his burned house. Wooton, for his part, keeps answering her hostility with patience and unexpected kindness. Stubborn and set in her ways, she resists help even in a crisis - Connie Kendall and Penny Wise have to coax her from her home during a flood. Beneath the crustiness, she can still be caught off guard by generosity.
