Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth President of the United States, long dead before Odyssey's own story begins. Children in Odyssey meet him through Whit's Imagination Station, which carries them back to his final months in 1865. There Jimmy Barclay befriends a tall, easygoing stranger called Abe, who teaches him to hunt squirrels with a sling. Only later does Jimmy watch him take the presidential oath. Lincoln proves warm and generous with the boy. He brings Jimmy along to the front lines of the Civil War and later invites him to the theater in Washington. That night he was shot by John Wilkes Booth at Ford's Theater, a death history does not allow anyone to prevent. At Whit's End, a gallery figure of Lincoln still seems to answer visitors' questions.
