Melchior

Melchior is one of the three wise men, remembered alongside his companions Gaspar and Balthazar. He serves as the guide of their expedition, and his temper is famously sour. He reads the heavens with confidence, and he said the stars told him of his great journey months before it began. Following a brilliant new star from the east, he led the magi toward the child born to be king. When a stranded traveler named Eugene joined the camp and insisted the child was in Bethlehem, Melchior refused to believe him. He held that a king of kings would surely live in Jerusalem, and steered the party there instead. After King Herod directed the magi onward, Melchior and his companions found the child in Bethlehem. They bowed before him and offered gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
