Maria

Maria is a young woman in a village where Jason Whittaker helped establish a church and a missionary radio station. Her country is threatened by civil war, and violence in the village is increasing. She belongs to a rival religious assembly founded by Victor, whose broadcasts teach that divine wisdom and power lie within each person. That promise of control appeals to villagers who feel helpless under the threat of war, and Maria embraced it. When her parents objected to Victor's assembly, she left their home, and she now considers herself free. At one of Victor's prayer meetings she testified openly about that freedom. She was raised by her grandmother, and she keeps a single photograph of her.
