Marge

Marge is a diner waitress in Whit's play about John LaFete and the importance of serving through one's own gifts. John and his family search for dramatic people to help while repeatedly ignoring a homeless man sitting nearby. When the man disappears, Marge explains that the bench was his only home and that the authorities moved him along. She then asks for a simple favor: her sister is ill, five children are hungry, and prepared food needs to be carried across town. The LaFetes reluctantly make the delivery and finally help someone. Marge's practical request reveals what their search for impressive service missed. A real need was close, understandable, and perfectly suited to the ordinary ability they had dismissed.
