Levi
Levi is the son of Alpheus, a tax collector in Capernaum during the childhood of Simon, James, and John. He angrily confronts their friend Joshua after discovering that Joshua has taken a fine pair of sandals, and James returns them to him. Later, a prank involving jars of fish scraps leaves Alpheus injured. Levi finds a piece of the broken jar bearing Simon's family mark and leads a Roman centurion to Simon. The evidence results in Simon's arrest, although Joshua eventually claims full responsibility. Levi's actions place him between the fishermen's sons and the Roman-backed tax-collecting household they deeply resent.
