Leslie
Leslie is a young girl in Odyssey with a lively imagination and a stubborn habit of stretching the truth. Nearly everything she describes grows in the telling - a strict teacher becomes the meanest man alive, and ordinary homework becomes advanced calculus. Her exaggerations come so easily that people stop believing her, even on the rare occasions when her strangest stories turn out to be true. Mr. Whittaker can usually spot one of her tall tales and gently presses her toward what really happened. Friendships matter deeply to Leslie. She grew up alongside Cindy, her best friend since they were babies, and she is also close to her loyal friend Ann and her cousin Lucy. Her mother offers steady advice, and once helped her understand that people change as they grow.
