Katrina Meltsner is a teacher and tutor in Odyssey and the wife of the brilliant but absent-minded Eugene Meltsner, whose devotion she returns while gently steadying his excesses. Bright and perceptive, she values careful attention to people over a stockpile of facts, and she insists on being respected for her own abilities rather than deferred to. As an instructor she sets high standards - real research, honest work, no easy credit - yet offers patient, kind help to students whose struggles hide behind bravado. A committed Christian, her faith anchors both her marriage and her work, and alongside Eugene she helps run a ministry that puts their gifts to use serving people all over town. She is the daughter of Armitage and Millie Shanks.
