Davey Holcomb

Davey Holcomb is a boy in Odyssey who spends time at Whit's End and struggles to believe in himself. He is convinced he is a failure and cannot do anything right. He plays baseball, where a teammate named Ralph once branded him a klutz after a string of mishaps. He also likes to invent things, though his projects rarely go the way he plans. Discouragement runs deep in him, and his first instinct when something goes wrong is to quit. His most important relationship is with John Avery Whittaker. Whit once drew him out of despair by asking him to help repair a broken machine, which the two rebuilt into a pizza oven of Davey's own design. Through Whit's patience, Davey learned that no honest failure is ever wasted.
