Cindy

Cindy is Jay Smouse's visiting cousin and a girl he would rather avoid entertaining. Jay passes the responsibility to Barrett Jones, but Cindy and Barrett genuinely enjoy one another's company. They discover shared interests in jazz, a school musical, and coloring children's menus at Hal's Diner. Unwilling to believe the friendship formed without his interference, Jay tells Cindy that Barrett was paid to spend the day with her. The lie hurts her until Barrett explains what actually happened. Cindy accepts the truth and keeps her new friendship. She also knows enough about Jay's action figures, matching pajamas, and Elvis jumpsuits to answer his teasing with embarrassing details of her own, making the practiced schemer regret choosing her as a target.
