Carl Ross
Carl Ross is the curator of a museum in Chicago. He is also the great-great-grandson of William Ross, who escaped slavery by way of the Underground Railroad. As a boy in Tennessee, William was sold away from his parents, Henry and Caroline, and sent to a plantation in Mississippi. He later fled north - at one point nailed inside a shipping crate and mailed like cargo - and eventually reached freedom in Canada alongside his father. Carl's tie to Odyssey runs through that family history. At Whit's End he uncovered a leather map that William had hidden behind a tunnel beam long ago. In doing so, he revealed that the man who hid it was his own ancestor.
