Mrs. Randolph
Mrs. Randolph is a kindly older woman of Odyssey, one of the residents on Wooton Bassett's mail route. She is known for the interesting way she names her pets. She met her husband, Melvin, when a flat tire stranded her on a lonely stretch of Highway 29. The two were married for forty-three years before his death. Since losing him, she has quietly tended that mile of roadside in his memory. She is warm and hospitable, happy to share cookies and conversation with visitors. She is also quietly perceptive. It is her gentle question - whether Connie Kendall really wants to dish out ice cream forever - that nudges Connie to start thinking hard about her own future.
