Warren Summers

Warren Summers is a young model-train builder at Whit's End whose detailed working engine, the Silver Streak, may be chosen for a state-fair display. When the engine disappears after Michelle Terry offers to put it away, Warren presses charges and assumes her shoplifting record proves her guilt. Whit warns that circumstantial evidence can make an innocent person look responsible. Warren begins recognizing that his attitude has been unfair and later offers to help prepare Michelle's caboose for the fair when evidence appears to clear her. Michelle ultimately confesses, but the truth does not justify judging her before it was known. Warren's loss teaches him that protecting something valuable must not replace fairness, patience, or concern for another person.
