Tuan

Tuan was the head of a Chinese Vietnamese family forced from its prosperous rice business after the Communist takeover of South Vietnam. At first he hoped conditions would improve, but his wife Linh insisted that their children had no safe future there. Tuan kept the family together as they surrendered their possessions, paid corrupt officials, and boarded the dangerously overcrowded refugee boat Hy Vong. During pirate attacks, hunger, and days adrift with a failed engine, he tried to protect and encourage his family. His mother's courage and Linh's mysterious dream strengthened their hope when escape seemed impossible. Tuan's perseverance helped carry several generations through dispossession and danger toward a new country and, eventually, Christian faith.
