Tommy

Tommy is a boy from Foster Creek who meets Annie McNeil while Whit delivers food and toys after Christmas. He dares the bored visitor to explore an alley and spy on Mrs. Rossini, a supposedly frightening woman rumored to keep a hundred cats. When the Locos street gang chases them, Mrs. Rossini pulls Annie to safety and reveals a home with only seven cats. Tommy's challenge begins as neighborhood mischief but leads Annie into a life very different from her comfortable pile of presents. After rocks shatter Mrs. Rossini's windows, Tommy and Annie must help repair the glass. Their work turns the adventure into responsibility and gives Annie a reason to return, not for excitement alone but to care for new friends.
