Tarore

Tarore was the daughter of Maori chief Ngakuku and treasured a Gospel of Luke printed in her own language. She carried the small book everywhere in a woven bag around her neck. When raiders attacked her tribe's camp at night, Tarore was killed and the Gospel was stolen. Her grieving people demanded revenge, but Ngakuku refused to continue the cycle of bloodshed. The man responsible later heard the stolen book read aloud and returned unarmed to confess. Instead of death, he received forgiveness. Tarore's little Gospel continued traveling among Maori communities and helped bring peace between warring groups. Her brief life left a powerful legacy through Scripture, her father's mercy, and the transformation of an enemy.
