Sister Leona is the head of the convent at Dor, where she provides shelter for young Anna while Darien travels abroad seeking help. Before he leaves, Leona entrusts him with a golden sword once carried by the warrior he defeated. Her convent is a place of faith and safety in a kingdom ruled by the treacherous King Lawrence. That safety is threatened when a shepherd betrays the sisters' location in exchange for their land. Lawrence sends attackers to destroy the convent, forcing Anna to flee with the help of a stranger. Sister Leona's care gives Darien a trusted refuge for his young companion, while her gift connects his present calling with an earlier victory.
