Mrs. Shrew

Mrs. Shrew is a cranky wife in Pastor Knox's story about love and revenge. Hurt and furious with her husband, she plans an elaborate punishment. She will shower him with kindness, make him depend on her affection, and then crush him by leaving. At first every generous act is only part of the scheme. Yet as Mrs. Shrew continues choosing patience, service, and warmth, the love she pretends to feel begins becoming real. Her attempt to use goodness as a weapon changes the person holding it instead. Bitter calculation slowly gives way to genuine care. Mrs. Shrew's experience shows that loving actions can reshape a stubborn heart, even when those actions begin with selfish motives and the other person seems undeserving.
