Sherry
Sherry is Heather's best friend and often becomes involved in choices that test the difference between good actions and good motives. She calls Heather about a television interview airing during church, helping tempt her friend into pretending to be sick. Later, Heather pressures Sherry to skip Spanish class and help her study for math. Sherry agrees because she wants to help, though the method is wrong. When another girl breaks a lamp, Sherry also hides the truth to protect her. Her loyalty is sincere but easily bent by pressure. Sherry's situations show that friendship does not make every helpful impulse right. Caring for someone includes choosing honest means, not merely protecting a friend from disappointment or consequences.
