Rumpelstiltskin

Rumpelstiltskin is the mysterious little man who appears when Goldie is ordered to spin straw into gold. He possesses the magical ability the greedy king demands, but every favor carries a price. First he takes Goldie's necklace, then her ring, and finally her promise to surrender her firstborn child. When he returns to collect baby Bert, Rumpelstiltskin offers one narrow escape: Goldie may keep the child if she guesses his name within three days. He is vain enough to call himself handsome and confident that his secret is safe. Learning his name breaks his hold over Goldie, and his furious reaction brings about his downfall. His bargain warns against promises made in desperation.
