Rodney

Rodney is a boy staying with Agnes and Tom Riley during Thanksgiving while carrying deep disappointment about his family. His father promised to collect him but never arrived, and Rodney has no mother to celebrate with. When Whit invites each guest to name one blessing, Rodney refuses, believing he has nothing for which to thank God. Whit responds with the story of Fionna, whose blindness did not prevent her from thanking God for both roses and thorns. Rodney begins to see that gratitude can exist alongside pain. He finally places a kernel in the basket and even gives thanks that his father's absence brought him to this table. Chosen to say grace, Rodney offers a simple prayer of thanks for everything, including circumstances he still does not understand.
