Phineas

Phineas was a priest and one of Eli's two corrupt sons. He and his brother Hophni abused their position at the tabernacle, taking offerings for themselves and intimidating worshipers who resisted. When Eli warned that God would end their family's priesthood unless they changed, Phineas dismissed the rebuke. Later, the brothers carried the Ark of the Covenant into battle as though possessing a sacred object could force God to grant victory. Their confidence ignored Samuel's warning that people cannot choose their own miracles. Israel's army was crushed, the Ark was captured, and Phineas and Hophni were killed. Phineas's life shows the danger of treating holy service as personal power while refusing correction, responsibility, and genuine obedience to God.
