Peter Holt

Peter Holt is a friend of Lucy and Curt who owes Rodney Rathbone two dollars. When Peter can repay only one dollar, Rodney shoves him into trash cans and demands the remainder. The bullying is especially cruel because Tom Riley has just forgiven Rodney a much larger debt for stealing apples and damaging his orchard. Jimmy Barclay tells Tom what happened, and Tom decides Rodney must experience the standard he used on someone else. Peter's small debt becomes the center of a lesson about receiving mercy and extending it. His mistreatment exposes how easily a person can accept generous forgiveness while remaining harsh toward another person who owes far less and has even tried to make partial repayment.
