Pete Flannigan

Pete Flannigan is the star pitcher for the Odyssey Coyotes and a patient mentor to Henry Thomas. When a diving catch leaves Pete's arm in a cast before the playoffs, the nervous younger pitcher must take his place. Pete teaches Henry how to control his throws and helps him lead the team into the championship. Success soon makes Henry ignore the friend who trained him. During the final game, he chases dramatic strikeouts instead of following Pete's advice to pitch low, and the Coyotes lose. Pete responds without bitterness or a lecture. He forgives Henry, reminds him where his ability comes from, and promises to teach him another pitch. Talented and unselfish, Pete cares more about helping a teammate grow than keeping the spotlight.
