Pat

Pat is Joanne Allen's longtime friend from their missionary work in Chile. Thirty years earlier, the two women drove through a nighttime snowstorm to help a mother facing a dangerous childbirth on a mountain. Pat traveled with Joanne along an old road beside a steep cliff, praying as they went. Joanne's nursing knowledge helped the mother and baby survive. The following morning, Pat and Joanne learned that landslides had narrowed the closed road so severely that their car should not have been able to pass. Their tire tracks nevertheless showed the route they had taken.
