Nigel Odian
Nigel Odian is a television writer competing with Connie Kendall for a children's-programming job at Odyssey Cable. Confident in his commercial instincts, he pitches a cartoon about a pastry whose parents are all idiots. The idea reflects his belief that young viewers will respond to foolish adults and broad humor. Connie counters with her own deliberately bleak story about a little train that tries to fly and crashes into a canyon. Their rival presentations force the station to choose what kind of programs it wants to create. Nigel does not win the position, but his pitch helps sharpen the contrast between empty gimmicks and stories designed with a purpose. He is bold, opportunistic, and ready to sell an outrageous concept if it catches attention.
