Mortimer

Mortimer is the peculiar librarian inside Whit's Inspiration Station. His library contains a book for every life ever lived, allowing visitors to see how famous achievements grew through mistakes, persistence, and unfinished choices. When Matthew Parker wants to abandon inventing after damaging church computers, Mortimer shows him that Thomas Edison and Henry Ford also failed many times. He then presents Matthew with a volume bearing his own name. Its blank pages remind the boy that his future has not already been written and that one failure need not define it. Strange, patient, and encouraging, Mortimer uses the library to restore perspective rather than hand out instant success. He helps Matthew find courage to begin creating again, this time with permission.
