Kyle Barnett

Kyle Barnett is an Iowa farmer who also operates a repair shop in the small town of Donald Wood. He helps Bernard Walton and Eugene Meltsner after their truck hits a historical marker, but his greater concern is his thirteen-year-old son, Graham. Kyle assumes Graham will someday inherit the family farm and garage without asking what the boy wants. When Graham attempts to run away, Kyle realizes that his plans have replaced genuine listening. Eugene helps father and son work together on a computer program for the garage, allowing Graham's interests to strengthen the family business. Practical and hardworking, Kyle learns that providing a future for his son must include knowing Graham rather than deciding his life for him.
