Katrina Van Tassel

Katrina "Kat" Van Tassel is the strong-minded daughter of wealthy farmer Baltus Van Tassel in Sleepy Hollow. She loves Bones, the town prankster, and has no interest in marrying scheming schoolmaster Ichabod Crane. Ichabod courts her for the farm rather than affection and manipulates Baltus into banishing Bones. When Kat begs him to release her from the announced wedding, he coldly refuses. Bones drives Ichabod away by posing as the Headless Horseman, but Kat does not reward one act of manipulation with marriage to another manipulator. She rejects Bones too and walks away from both men's plans. Clear-eyed and independent, Kat refuses to let greed, trickery, or a dramatic rescue decide her future. She values genuine love but insists that even someone she loves must respect her choices.
