Joy

Joy is a curious seven-year-old whose endless questions test Eugene and Katrina Meltsner during a weekend of babysitting. She wants to understand everything, including the enormous question of where God came from. Even Katrina cannot answer every "why" immediately, but she recognizes that Joy's searching mind is a gift from God. Joy also cares deeply about her older companion Kyle. When too much candy makes him sick, she worries while Eugene sets aside his embarrassment and sings the boy to sleep. At the end of the weekend, Joy and Kyle declare Eugene and Katrina the best babysitters they have ever had. What Joy remembers most is not perfect entertainment but patient encouragement. Her lively curiosity helps Eugene discover that children may appreciate him more than he expects.
