John Hankins

John Hankins was Nina Hankins's father and a pastor traveling with her aboard the Titanic in 1912. He worried that his daughter had become too attracted to the ship's luxury and urged her to value what mattered to God. After the iceberg struck, John searched the flooding decks until he found Nina and placed her safely in a lifeboat. He refused a place beside her because he believed his calling required him to help other women and children escape. In the freezing water, he gave his own life belt to young Henry Lee and prayed with him. John's sacrifice saved Henry's life, strengthened Nina's faith, and continued shaping both young people long after the ship disappeared beneath the sea.
