Joey Patrick

Joey Patrick is a struggling student who receives an advanced computer called the Cyberdyne Super Plus Deluxe 9000.5a for his birthday. Through a mind reading headband, the machine helps him reach the honor roll, and Joey names it Hallie. Success comes with isolation. He breaks promises to Zach and Mary, avoids outdoor games, and keeps adding parts while Hallie becomes possessive. The headband begins sticking to his skin, and the computer shuts out his worried mother. Joey finally understands that a tool built to serve him is controlling his life. He pulls the plug, embraces his mother, and returns to his friends. Bright but easily absorbed, Joey learns that achievement is not worth surrendering relationships or freedom.
