Jeriel

Jeriel is a trusted servant of the King in the mythical land of Rapture. He and fellow messenger Benai carry personal invitations to nobles chosen for the Prince's wedding feast. The guests do not merely decline. They beat the servants, chase them with bullwhips, and throw them into a dungeon, where Benai dies. Jeriel's dangerous assignment reveals the depth of the nobles' rejection and the cost of delivering the King's welcome. Afterward, the feast is opened freely to people from the streets, both good and bad, with wedding garments provided for them. Jeriel serves as a faithful messenger in a story about God's invitation to heaven. His suffering shows that the invitation is generous, but it is neither trivial nor forced upon those determined to refuse the King's Son.
