James Wakefield

James Wakefield is the man who calls himself Kent Wakefield's uncle and uses a wheelchair. He tells Whit that Kent is delusional and has spent years searching for an imaginary childhood home. In truth, Kent is Kenneth Anderson, heir to the Tate family fortune, and James has hidden his identity to steal the inheritance. James also concealed Kent's injured father after the fire that killed his mother. When Whit's questions threaten the deception, James tries to create another tragic accident with a syringe. His knowledge of facts no one shared eventually exposes him. Whit reaches the Tate Lodge in time, police arrest James, and Kent is reunited with the father he had been taught to believe was dead.
